My 16 plate Pulsar is going in for it's 2nd annual service next week. Although it's only done 12,000 miles, it is miles or time,in my case time. Asked the dealer how much,£269 was the reply as it is a major ! I asked was that he very best they could do? sharp intake of breath! let me see said the receptionest,"I can do it for £249" I guess for that it will be oil and all filters, hydraulic fluids, and a general check over + maybe an update to the sat nav but will not hold my breath on that happening. Oh and the use of a curtesy car for a few hours.
So what are others paying for the major service?

My guidance on this.....
If you own a car from new, and expect Nissan to play nice on warranty issues, then please consider getting Nissan do the servicing (although to be honest, most people will negotiate ‘free’ servicing as part of their deals which takes you up to warranty end). Whilst under law you are not forced to, it makes life a lot easier, as well as building a relationship with the dealer if you do need to make a warranty claim. Anybody who buys new, or a car within warranty period should consider this as the ‘total cost of the cars price’ rather than cost of overall ownership. Same with the first MOT, get it done at a Nissan dealer BEFORE the warranty expires.
After that, consider going elsewhere to do your servicing. There is a garage near me in Chorley who advertise themselves as Nissan specialist. £175 for major and £95 for minor service and I am about to send my 5 year old Micra DIG-S to. Downside to take into account is no curt car, no 1 year RAC, no software updates and no 'hidden' recall work complete (there are often recall works completed to cars which are not a formal recall work, but preventative or voluntary y the manuf). On the flips side, you can work around a curt car, if you car has been fine for years then software update probably won’t do much and you can find out about recall work!

It is being serviced by the supplying main dealer.I just polietly asked if there was any downward movement on the price. As a matter of principle i always ask if there is any movement on price especially when giving repeat business to a company.
