Help! - Broken wing mirror housing

Hi,
I'm hoping for some advice. While driving home from work last night some clown in a white Peugeot (who didn't stop by the way) whacked my driver's side wing mirror. Thankfully the glass didn't break and initially I thought I had only lost the colour coded top trim cover, which I managed to retrieve from the road, but sadly on closer inspection I found that the black housing underneath the mirror was shattered with a big hole in it. I have also noticed since that there is a crack in the plastic where the wing mirror unit connects to the car's door.
Any ideas as to the best way to fix this damage? Would I need to buy a complete replacement unit which would probably be expensive, or could I just purchase the black plastic section that sits under the mirror?
I'd appreciate any suggestions. or guidance, thanks.
